Charleston to Jacksonville

Today we drove down Route 17 (the "Savannah Highway") to connect to I-95 continuing further south.  The day was clear and beautiful traveling across grass covered bogs pregnant with water from the prior two days of rain and intermittent pine forests.  The land is flat and the RV gets the best mileage we've seen yet.  We pass local cider shops and pecan vendors, each claiming to be the best, before reaching I-95 where the fast food outlets reign.  In Georgia we spy a truck wash (the first since leaving Arizona) and stop to wash away months of living in the woods.  The car, still attached to the tow bar, gets a bath too in the huge pull-through bay.  The workers smile and talk non-stop as they climb up to the roof and wind around both vehicles to complete their job.  Jim joins their banter with his own humor interspersed with theirs as he admires their work.  The leader of the gang brags that theirs in the best truck wash up and down I-95 and we have to agree when we survey the sparkling, dried product.
Two clean and shiny vehicles!

Further down I-95 we stop to avail ourselves of half a dozen tourist magazines at the Florida Welcome Center.  A colorful dolphin greets us at the door and fresh orange juice can be had for stopping.  I am struck by the abundant expanse of well kept greenery surrounding the building and memories of living in Florida's lushness are renewed.

Finally, a bit further down the road, we arrive in Jacksonville to stay just off the highway at an RV park that offers all we appreciate in a park:  cement pads to park on (car and RV) with all the utilities we love to have (50 amp, cable TV and internet.)  We make a quick trip down the road to visit a Camping World and browse through a few RVs and the store for fun.  Then home for an easy dinner followed by a long walk at sunset.
My beloved geese have kept pace with our mutual journey south.

Sunset reflects on a pond as we walk by.
This morning as the sun rises, the birds greet the day singing in every direction around the coach.  We will travel down I-95 to Daytona and then turn inland to Orlando today.  Here we will spend five days enjoying one of the tourist capitals of the country.
