Geocashing

Another entertainment idea for seniors with time on their hands:

On the trail toward our first site.

Geocashing is a popular activity all over the country.  Jim became interested in it and researched possible sites near our RV park.  Sure enough there were several and conveniently one existed right on our walking trail.  Off we went on the hunt.

So, what is geocashing?  Well, someone hides something in a box (the size of an magnetic key holder, an Altoid tin, a breadbox sized container or right up to something the size of a five gallon paint can.  They stash small items in some of the larger containers for those who discover the geocash container to exchange for something small they carry with them.  There is a log to sign and leave.  Then you go online to report that you found the geocash, locate your next target, and then move on to the coordinates of that one.  The activity employs some of the Harry Potter terminology for those involved with this activity versus those who know nothing about it.  The object is to not give away the location of the geocash to others.  It reminds me of a scavenger hunt.  There are thousands of geocashes all over the world.

We were not successful in finding our first one, but we are going to look for a few hidden over by the beach.  Happy hunting to those of you who try this near your home and when we find our first one, I'll show you some photos.
