In May of 2006, Adella Johnson found the remains of two Bull Moose on her property in New Sweden in the northern most area of Maine. The two Bull Moose died after their antlers had become locked in battle during the previous fall’s rut. Adella donated the two Bull Moose antlers to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife to be used for educational purposes.
The Department partnered with L. L. Bean to bring the two moose back to life by recreating their battle and sharing interpretive and educational information with the general public. Nature’s Reflections Taxidermy of Gray, Maine developed a lifelike display of the two moose (one of only two of its kind in North America.) Even during the taxidermy process, the antlers have never been separated since they became locked in the Fall of 2005. The display can be seen at the L. L. Bean retail store in Freeport, Maine.
