Mystic Pizza-The Original

"Ok, if you really want to do this..."

"Of course, a week and a half without pizza is too long!"

This morning we moved the coach within the park where we are presently staying.  Now that the Labor Day crowd has moved on back to work and school, the park is only about a quarter full of settled in seniors.  Management had us reposition to a pull through site closer to the main office and almost where we were parked when we first arrived.  I am proud to say I drove the coach through the park and into the new space without a problem (very slowly and with lots of coaching from Jim.)  I even managed to apply the brakes numerous times with out rocking every dish out of the cabinet.  Awesome, but I still can’t imagine driving on the highway yet.  Eventually though I hope to try driving on a very quiet stretch of real highway.

A true test to the surgeon’s abilities was put into play today with a late morning trip to the Post Office that ended with a stop at Mystic Pizza (the original location on Main Street in Mystic.)  Well, why not?  What better way to determine if a couple of slices of pizza crosses the line for Jim’s body to deal with the fat content?  Down roughly twelve pounds since before surgery, he could even spare the calories weighing less now than at any time I have known him!  So we met the challenge with gusto and ordered a small pie.

Even at 11:30 am the restaurant was busy with the early lunch crowd and the occasional tourist that stopped in just for a photograph of the interior.  Movie photo memorabilia covers the walls and the movie itself plays on a flat screen TV on the back wall.  The restaurant also has beautiful stained glass decorations in most of the windows.  A life size mannequin dressed like Julia Roberts was in the movie graces one wall.

The sidewalks are quiet in Mystic post Labor Day as we leave to return to the RV under a dark sky threatening rain yet again.  Arriving home just as the downpour begins, we are contemplating converting the RV to an Ark.  In light of the weather the last couple of days, we may be able to float out of the park by week’s end if this keeps up.  Seriously, the park is draining well and we are grateful that we are not driving in this weather.  Hopefully, things will improve by Friday morning when we hit the highway westerly toward Hersey, Pennsylvania.
